May 2026
In May, we began our exciting ‘Bears’ topic. The children explored different bear habitats and enjoyed a range of bear-themed stories during daily story time. A particular favourite was We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, which we brought to life through role play. The children had great fun acting out the story, travelling through mud, grass and snow and even went on their own ‘Bear Hunt’ along the woodland trail.
We were delighted to welcome caterpillars to the nursery and observed their fascinating transformation. Starting off very small, we watched them grow and wriggle each day. We also enjoyed reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children were thrilled to release the butterflies on 18th May.
The nursery made full use of the nearby field as we practised for Sports Day. The children especially enjoyed the Potato and Spoon race and the Obstacle race.
We took several visits to the school pond, where we spotted many tadpoles and even caught one to observe it wriggling in the water. While exploring the Woodland Trail, we discovered a variety of flowers and plants in bloom. Our ‘Woodland Trail Day’ with Ciara from The Playtrail was a highlight, featuring pond dipping, outdoor activities and making delicious s’mores.
The children are also thoroughly enjoying their Fundamental Movement Skills sessions with Coach Michael, where they continue to develop new skills while having fun.
At the art table, the children worked hard creating beautiful spring pictures, alongside caterpillar and butterfly crafts inspired by our learning.
As part of our transition to Primary 1, the children are becoming more familiar with the wider school environment. They have enjoyed visits to the computer room and school library, as well as practising using trays in the canteen. These experiences are helping to build confidence and independence as they prepare for the next stage of their learning journey.
