May and June News

24th Jun 2021

With the arrival of May, we started work on our ‘Bears’ topic. We were learning all about where bears live and we read lots of stories about Bears during our class story time each day. One of our favourite stories was ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We had lots of fun in nursery telling the story using the mud, grass and snow!

Our caterpillars arrived in nursery. When they arrived they were tiny. We watched each day and they grew very quickly. The caterpillars were wriggling around and we loved reading the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ as well. We named each butterfly before we released the butterflies into our Outdoor Play area. We think the butterflies flew over to the big school.

We went for several walks to our school pond and saw lots of tadpoles. We managed to fish one out and saw it wriggling about in the water. We explored the Fishmongers’ Trail and saw lots of lovely flowers and plants growing. The staff from The Playtrail came to our Woodland Trail and we had a great day completing lots of outdoor activities such as pond-dipping and making s’mores.

We planted grass seeds in pots and helped to look after them. The grass grew quickly. We practised our cutting skills and used scissors to cut the grass.

The weather during May was lovely and sunny. We made good use of the field beside our nursery. We practised all of our races for Sports Day. We loved the Potato and Spoon race and the Obstacle race. The best part was when the ice cream van arrived!

As part of our transition work, we went over to the school for an Assembly and we are now having our dinner in the Canteen every day.

We celebrated our Graduation in June. We were all dressed up in our gowns and mortar boards. We sang some of the songs we learned this year and we spoke about things we liked to do in nursery. We were super on the stage!

We have loved our year in nursery and we are ready for Primary One!
