Ballykelly Primary School, Ballykelly, Limavady

P7 term one

9th Dec 2019

Term 1 has gone in a blink! They say time flies when you are having fun and that is certainly the case in Primary 7. Children are the oldest in the school and we had the announcement of Head Boy and Head Girl to look forward to. Well done to Cailean and Ellen who will be representing the school during many events throughout the year - a great honour to have on your last year of Primary school. We also celebrate our prefects who have many duties to carry out during the year.
Not many classes start the school term with a trip but Primary 7 had the opportunity to visit the RADAR Centre in Belfast. RADAR is a resource centre where children learn lots about online safety, safety in the home and public transport rules and requirements. All in all a great day out!
We started our topic Location Location Location, all about map work, geography of the world and our local area. Children enjoyed activities such as making our very own compass using water and a paper clip. Atlas work proved challenging but Mrs Semple was amazed by the facts and figures her class had acquired! Art work proved to be just as colourful as ever as we studied a famous artist - Hundertwasser and children went back in time to learn about our village Ballykelly and the fascinating history that underlies our village.
During Term 1 children are also very focused on their Transfer test studies, children work very hard to focus their efforts and try their very best. Once December came focus shifted to Christmas - the most wonderful time of the year!
December is a very busy month in most schools but particularly for Primary 7 children we have our choir and our school band members rehearsing for the many concerts and events they attend during this busy month. We also had the opportunity to visit Limavady Grammar school and Limavady High school performances of Oliver and Grease. They were fantastic, such a privilege to see some pass pupils on stage singing and dancing also a welcome treat from lessons back at school.
I think after all that work Primary 7 definitely deserve their Christmas break, let’s hope Santa appears and we get a week earned break, ready for the new year ahead, Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year!
