Term 1 update

6th Dec 2019

It’s been a great first term for all our new Primary 1 pupils and they’ve settled in so well. They can write sounds and numbers as well as their own names – amazing work! P1 pupils have also been working with Brenda Welch, our Speech and Language therapist, every Friday to develop attention and listening and phonological awareness.

This year P1/2 are so privileged to have Musical Pathways every Wednesday with Ms. Una. We have been developing our awareness of different voices for example, singing voice, speaking voice, high and low voice as well as the extra special ‘thinking voice.’ We’ve loved meeting Harry the Hedgehog and Olly the owl each week after all our singing and music making. We can’t wait to see what Ms. Una has in store for next term.

We had lots of fun in the lead up to Christmas. We were extremely busy rehearsing for our show, learning lines, singing and dancing. We were very creative and made winter and Christmas art to decorate our classroom and cloakroom.

Our thematic topic for this term has been ‘Home Sweet Home’ and we’ve been learning about different types of houses and investigating which material is the best for building a house. It’s been such fun learning about the homes of Kings and Queens – their castle and we’ve been dressing up and role playing in our very own castle.

It will soon be time for a rest now though with Christmas holidays fast approaching. All that’s left to say is Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from P1/2, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Shiels and Mrs. Mullan.
